Flood Defence[edit | edit source]
Camberwell New Road is below sea level, but the main foreseeable flooding threat is stormwater, or flash-flooding caused by intense rainfall.
A key goal for the area is to ensure that any future development near Clarendon Terrace, such as the Wyndham Redcar development behind it, improves local resilience to flash-flooding rather than worsens it.
This is because we can only expect extreme weather events to get worse, as climate change really starts to take hold over the next decade and beyond.
This is the reason for the Local Centre designation proposal by locals to Miah Close and Camberwell New Road, to facilitate a dialogue between Southwark, Lambeth and TfL, to get the right protections in place.
